Date Line: Santa Fe, NM., 18 July 1941, Santa Fe Sun Journal.
A new Santa Fe eating establishment has affected the Chili Line Division rail service to and from Santa Fe. With the grand opening of a new Mexican Café named "Trinka's Café", D&RGW train crews are reporting to have over-indulged in the owner's house specialty drink of margaritas. Enginemen have missed their appointed departure times due to the fine cuisine and house's specialty - margaritas. D&RGW management have been caught flat footed by these delays and the daily mix has twice been delayed this week alone due to the lack of engine crews to man the trains. Rio Grande management related rail service has been "somewhat" affected and they further concede the new café's air-conditioning and friendly hospitality are had to pass up.
It has been reported the "Santa Fe Switcher", normally C-16, #278 has been joined by sister engine #268 for the summer produce rush - yet unconfirmed reports indicate both engines idle on the team track behind the café for the majority of the day. Just this week a track gang replaced the 300 feet of track behind the café so heavier engines can use this siding- for what purpose it remains to be seen.
True History behind my new café: Trinka is my wife, Catherine's, nickname due to the fact that her siblings could not pronounce "Catherine" when they were young - hence Trinka. I don't see the relation either but work with me okay…). As for the margaritas - while attending an "exhausting" stint as a student at the USAF Squadron's Officer School many years ago she learned some very important skills. Can't say what professional military education she gleamed from this fine institution, but one thing is for sure: she makes a killer margarita. Now you know the rest of the story.
Ed's note: This building is not yet completed. It will have a red and white canvas awning in the front, an outside eating area, stained glass windows (I hope?), and many other details.
